Bhilai Engineering Corporation Pvt firm officials held
Hyderabad: Two senior officials of the Chattisgarh-based Bhilai Engineering Corporation (BEC) were caught by the city police in a major hawala bust. The hawala gang landed in custody when their car was intercepted by the police on Abids Road on Thursday.
The police seized around Rs 2 crore from the four-member gang. The police also raided the Golkonda Hotel, recovered the money and detained the BEC officials. Police said one of the hawala agents is a close associate of the Mumbai-based kingpin.
Police said the arrested men are Madhava Ram, 69, general manager of BEC, and Ramesh Chand Goyal, assistant GM. Two hawala agents, Darshan Turkiya, 32, who is an associate of hawala racketeer Prashant, and Piyush Azmeera, 51, a native of Mumbai, were transporting the money for the BEC officials.
“After receiving information our team intercepted Darshan and Piyush while they were carrying Rs 89,87,500 without any document in their car. They confessed that they had handed over Rs 1.2 crore to the BEC officials at Golconda Hotel. Our team raided Golconda Hotel, detained both the officials and recovered the cash,” said DCP B. Limba Reddy.
Police suspect the BEC officials were engaged in illegal deals to escape the income tax department. The cops handed over the money and people to the Income Tax department.
