Convene all party meet, assembly: Karunanidhi
Meeting was called to take strong objection to water resource minister MB Patil's remarks
Chennai: Taking strong objection to Karnataka water resource minister M.B. Patil’s remarks that the state would go ahead with the Mekadatu dam project, DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday urged Tamil Nadu government to immediately convene an all party meeting and move the Supreme Court to stop the neighbour. Joining the issue with his party treasurer-son M.K. Stalin who sought Assembly session for various other issues, Karunanidhi, in a statement, said the TN government should immediately convene the Assembly and pass a resolution condemning Karnataka. He also pressed for immediate convention of an all-party meet before approaching the Supreme Court and Cauvery water disputes tribunal.
Recent media reports quoted the Karnataka minister as saying that his government had consulted senior counsel Fali S. Nariman who had stated that the Mekadatu project would not violate the Cauvery tribunal award and they would go ahead with the project, which will not stand legal scrutiny.
Referring to Karnataka’s consultation with Mr Nariman, Karunanidhi wondered if the AIADMK had employed the same counsel who defends Karnataka in the Cauvery case to secure bail for their convicted leader Jayalalithaa in the disproportiate assets case.
