Telangana State House rocked again

Furious TRS legislators demanded an unconditional apology from Mr Revanth Reddy and said that he was indulging in character assassination. However, the traditional enemy Congress surprisingly came to the rescue of the TD and said a mere withdrawal of the statement would suffice.

Mr Revanth Reddy, in turn, gave a privilege motion notice against IT minister K.T. Rama Rao for terming TD legislators as “nominated” members of Andhra Pradesh. The Assembly was adjourned amid chaos without the discussion on Budget being completed.

In the Question Hour on Tuesday, Mr Revanth Reddy had alleged that Ms Kavita had registered for the household survey twice, in Hyderabad and Nizamabad.

TRS legislators, however, upped the ante against Mr Reddy on the issue after MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi ended his speech.

Finance minister Etela Rajender stated that Ms Kavita had registered only in Nizamabad and showed records of the same. At this time, Mr Revanth Reddy sought to move the privilege motion against K.T. Rama Rao, who had said that TD legislators were behaving as if they were nominated representatives of the Andhra Pradesh government.

TRS legislator K. Surekha demanded that Mr Revanth Reddy tender an apology to Kavita. Another TRS MLA, G. Sunitha termed it as an attack against women. “It is character assassination and disrespect to women. He insulted women with his allegations. He also said new members of the House may not understand the Budget. He totally disrespected women,” she said.

On Legislative Minister Mr T. Harish Rao’s advice, Speaker Mr S. Madhusudhan Chary sought the opinion of other parties on the issue and Congress came to the TD’s rescue and said a mere withdrawal of the statement would suffice.

“Every question asked by a member may not be right. The member can withdraw his statement and we can continue with the Budget discussion,” Congress leader Mr M. Bhatti Vikramarka opined. Leaders of other parties also opined that errors in speeches could happen and that the comment can be withdrawn to end the stalemate.

However, Mr Revanth Reddy didn’t budge and the House was adjourned as the chaotic scenes continued. Almost two hours were lost in the blame game between the ruling and opposition parties.
