Ministers may have to work on holidays
New Delhi: In a possible paradigm shift in the functioning of the government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has advised his ministerial colleagues to be prepared to work even on public holidays.
It is well known that Mr Modi himself is a workaholic, and now he wants other ministers too to go that extra mile to bring in a greater sense of urgency. It is felt in government circles that this will help in quick decision-making and help clear the backlog left by the UPA government, that was often accused of policy paralysis.
Mr Modi had recently said that ever since he took office, he hadn’t taken even a single day’s break.
The PM also made it clear all ministers of state will have ample work in their departments and that their role won’t be restricted to answering Parliament questions. All senior ministers will put a mechanism in place to identify areas where their juniors will have full autonomy.
