Online membership drive in the State had garnered 35,800 new members
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Even though the national BJP leadership had kicked off its nationwide membership campaign on Nov. 1, the official State launch is yet to take place. But State BJP president V. Muraleedharan said an online membership drive in the State had garnered 35,800 new members for the State party forum.
BJP national president Amit Shah who was in Thiruvananthapuram on Sept 1, had urged the State leadership to induct as many members as possible to the 21,000-plus booth committees during the six-month membership campaign drive lasting up to March 31, 2015.
A State level workshop was held in the capital city on Tuesday to decide on how effectively the membership drive could be initiated in Kerala including door-to-door campaigns. This workshop was attended by BJP vice-president Vinay Sahasrabuddhe, national organizational joint secretary V. Satish, national secretary in charge of Kerala, H.Raja and former Karnataka higher education minister C.T.Ravi. According to Muraleedharan, three regional level workshops will be held in the State soon.
“Actually, even before the official launch of the membership drive in the State, 35,800 new members got enrolled in the cadre here when it was officially kickstarted at the national level on Nov 1. Anyone keen on joining the BJP only need give a missed call to the toll free number 18002662020”, said Muraleedharan.
They will immediately get an SMS seeking their name and address which would be fed into the central database. The State leadership would also be informed of each member being enrolled in the party. So far only 13,000 to 14,000 booths have been active in the State and Amit Shah has urged the State leadership that members belonging to all sections of society are roped in.
