Supreme Court raps Travancore royal family for Padmanabha Swamy Temple vigil
Thiruvananthapuram: The Supreme Court on Tuesday questioned the intentions of the erstwhile Travancore royal family. “Which is more important for the royal family? Is it the security of the temple or the ouster of amicus curiae Gopal Subramaniam,” the apex court asked while hearing the plea on the mismanagement of Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple assets.
The SC fully backed the amicus curiae and asked him to continue when he sought the permission of the division bench to step down.
Gopal Subramaniam said that it was difficult for him to continue if personal attacks were hurled at him. The amicus curiae also said that the charges of the royals caused pain and were embarrassing. The erstwhile royals had filed an affidavit in the apex court alleging that the amicus curiae was attempting to malign the family by raising baseless charges.
The amicus curiae had recommended 129 measures to streamline the administration of the temple. The SC said that the royals could submit their opposition to any of the proposals made by the amicus curiae in three weeks’ time.
