Poison killed Tirthahalli girl

Tirthahalli girl drank poison, hints FSL

Bengaluru: Did the 14-year-old girl from Tirthahalli, who died on October 31 in a private hospital in Manipal, consume poison? Highly placed sources said the forensic examination of her viscera is almost complete and reportedly indicates that she may have consumed poison, said a source.

"While the forensic experts have reportedly found traces of poison in the viscera, they are trying to establish the nature, level and quantum (whether an overdose) of poisoning before they finalise the toxicology report," said an official source.

The FSL report is likely to be submitted to the Criminal Investigation Department, which is investigating the case, this week, he added.

Last weekend, the forensic analysis of the 'death note' of the girl reportedly confirmed that it was written by her, which was strongly contested by her father in a press conference in Bengaluru on November 8.

The viscera report will confirm the cause of the teenager's death, which has been highly politicised with the government coming under pressure to hand over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a 'fair' investigation.

"The forensic experts will have to establish the nature of the poison, the quantum and the level of poisoning by examining the viscera. This is a time-consuming process because each poison reacts differently inside the body," said a retired forensic expert.

The Tirthahalli police had registered the First Information Report (FIR) (Crime number 352) under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (assault or criminal force to woman with intention to outrage her modesty) against unknown persons after the father of the deceased had lodged a criminal complaint against three unknown men for kidnapping and sexually assaulting his minor daughter, when she was on her way to school.

He had also stated that they had given her something suspicious to drink in the complaint. The autopsy report had, however, ruled out sexual assault or physical injury on the deceased teenager.
