SC to hear Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple case today
Thiruvananthapuram: The Supreme Court, as part of hearing a plea against the mismanagement of the wealth of Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple, will take up for consideration on November 11 the affidavits filed by the erstwhile royal family and the state government.
The erstwhile royals had stated in their affidavit had questioned amicus curiae Gopal Subramaniam’s findings that there were financial irregularities in the running of the Sree Padmanabha Swami temple. Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple Trustee Moolam Thirunal Ramavarma said that amicus curiae Gopal Subramaniam’s charges were baseless and that the family had not failed to perform its duties in the temple.
The affidavit also says that the apex court should wait for the report of the former Comptroller and Auditor general Vinod Rai before pronouncing a verdict on the financial affairs of the temple. Ramavarma alleged that the amicus curiae was attempting to malign the erstwhile family using the media.
The state government affidavit had recommended Guruvayur-model of administration for the temple, which is now being run by a Trust headed by the erstwhile royal family. It said that a nine-member administrative committee will be constituted for the temple. Besides the nominees appointed by the government, the committee will also have a representative each of the erstwhile royal family and temple employees. The assets of the temple, however, will not be attached to the government.
