Pact on Tungabhadra canals will provide water to Rayalaseema

Agreement between AP and Karnataka to give 4.5 lakh acres in 4 districts of Rayalaseema

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Irrigation minister Devineni Umamaheswara said on Tuesday that the agreement between Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Karnataka Chief Minister Siddharamaih on Tungabhadra canals would provide supply water to about 4.5 lakh acres in four districts of Rayalaseema in Andhra Pradesh.

Rao told reporters here that for nearly two decades the issue of Tungabhadra canals modernisation was pending and now with the initiative of the chief minister it would become a reality.

Naidu and his Karnataka counterpart signed an agreement for modernisation of Tungabhadra canals in Bengaluru yesterday.

He said that drinking water would also be supplied to the four- Anantapur, Kurnool, Kadapa and Chittoor districts.

Rao alleged that the previous Congress government had totally neglected irrigation projects, which resulted in paucity of irrigation water in the state.
