Copter service to Sabarimala put off
Operations to start only on December 15 due to the Jharkhand and J& K elections
Kochi: With just one week left for the Sabarimala season to begin, the aviation firm that was expected to start helicopter operations from Kochi international airport to its helipad at Perinad, 40 km off Sabarimala Sannidhaanam, is understood to have put off the operations by a month.
According to sources in the Bangalore-based firm Chipsan Aviation, they are now scheduling to start the operations only on December 15 as their helicopters will be engaged for the Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.
“Since the elections will be held in five phases, the helicopters will be extensively used by politicians. So will find it difficult to spare helicopters for Sabarimala season initially,” said the source.
The firm already has got over 50 bookings from Hyderabad alone for helicopter use and it is understood that it is set to cash in on the rush from neighbouring states after the completion of the first month of the Sabarimala season.
It’s after the first month of ‘vrutha’ that pilgrims from other states flow in en masse. Meanwhile, Chipsan is understood to be upset over the attitude of the Devaswom authorities in providing preferential darshan for the pilgrims this time.
“Till last year, preferential darshan was provided, but this year they seem to have developed cold feet,” said the source and added that this would discourage the pilgrims who rush in a hurry to Sabarimala for the pilgrimage by spending so much of money.
