Arun Jaitley says Sujana case is political

Never approached banks for write-offs, claims Sujana Group

New Delhi: Finance minister Arun Jaitley rejected the Congress’ allegations against Y.S. Chowdary and other BJP’s newly-inducted ministers.

“These are cases arising out of political agitations, not cases out of some crime,” Mr Jaitley said.

“They said that Chowdary has non-performing assets of his company. One of his many companies was making losses. The bank restructured it; he is paying back all the installments,” said Mr Jaitley.

Meanwhile, the Sujana Group also sent out a clarification stating, “The group has been dealing with more than 15 banks for several years with satisfactory dealings. The group in its 27 years’ history (has) never approached banks with requests for waivers and write-offs..”

Meanwhile, the YSRC alleged that AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has ignored the BCs in the cabinet and selected Sujana Chowdhary, who is facing allegations.

“Sending the name of Mr Chowdhary, Mr Naidu once again proved that the TD only favours the rich over the weaker sections as the first name it had proposed was that of P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju,” party leader Dharmana Krishna Das said.

“Sujana was described as a tax defaulter and there were reports about some fraud import deals in which he had been involved,” he said.

“As a man with such dubious qualities got a berth in the Union Cabinet, the BCs are very disappointed and unhappy with the choice of TD,” he said. Meanwhile, the YSRC is also planning to tour the state to talk to farmers over land pooling.
