Bengaluru: The mother of a six-year-old girl has filed an attempt to rape case against her distant relative for allegedly molesting and attempting to rape her daughter in Madanayakanahalli police station limits near Nelamangala.
The accused, Abhishek (21), is a distant relative of the victim’s mother and hails from Chitradurga district. He was working with the victim’s father, who is a coolie, and stayed next door.
The incident was reported in Machohalli Colony. According to the police, the incident occurred around 1.30 pm on Thursday.
The victim was playing outside her house, while her mother was busy doing the household chores. On noticing the victim playing alone, the accused took her to his house, saying he would give her chocolates. The accused then took her inside the room and tried to rape her.
The girl started screaming and the mother and other neighbours rushed to Abhishek’s house and found the girl. But by then the accused had fled from the spot.
The other area residents, who noticed the commotion, tried to catch the offender but in vain. After consulting the family members and her husband, the victim’s mother approached the Madanayakanahalli police station on Saturday and lodged a complaint against Abhishek.
Based on her complaint, the police registered a case of attempt to rape and have launched a manhunt for the accused.
