Mysuru: A 21-year-old man attempted to rape a seven-year-old girl in Maddurhundi village on the outskirts of the city, under Jayapura Police station limits, on Sunday.
The accused has been identified as Shivakumar, the victim’s neighbour.
The child was playing near her house on Sunday evening when the accused lured her with biscuits and took her to a lonely spot around 100 metres away.
She started screaming when he tried to sexually assault her. The villagers caught hold of him, thrashed him and chased him away from the village, the police said.
The Police have registered a case under Sections 354 of IPC and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The accused is absconding.
