Woman diagnosed with swine flu, hospitalised

Eight members of the household complained of high fever, cough and cold

Hyderabad: A 48-year-old woman Waseema Sultana has been diagnosed with swine flu and has been admitted at Care Hospitals. Eight members of the household complained of high fever, cough and cold. The rest were diagnosed as viral fevers but the condition of Sultana was found to be critical and her samples were sent for testing and was found to be positive.

Senior epidemiologist of Hyderabad city explained, "The family is from Malakpet and we have asked them to procure Tami Flu or Star Flu tablets from the open market. This will protect them and also help build their immunity. The patient is being taken care at the hospital but relatives who were close to the patient have to take care."

With tablets not available with the government, they are asking doctors to prescribe it so that it can be procured. The relatives are also being told that they must visit the patient only after wearing gloves and face mask.

The hospitals have also been instructed to follow safety measures with their paramedical staff. Another government doctor explained, "We have asked the government to hold a meeting with pharmacy companies and work over options to procure the tablets. One strip of 10 tablets is being sold for Rs 480 in the open market. If it can be made available in the affected districts it will help to control the disease."
