DMK chief said that caste-based census was important to implement social justice

Chennai: DMK president M. Karunanidhi on Saturday appealed to the Centre to come forward to conduct caste-based census. Stating that the Supreme Court had upturned the Madras high court order only based on the Central government’s submission, Karunanidhi said that the Centre should come forward to conduct caste-based census on its own.
Though the apex court had passed the verdict based on existing laws, Mr Karunanidhi said that caste-based census was important to effectively implement social justice. Stating that the SC had passed the order after giving due importance to the Centre’s stand, Karunanidhi detailed about the decade-long case and said that all those concerned about social justice want the Centre to realise the necessity and come forward to take steps to conduct caste-based census. PMK founder Dr Ramadoss has also made a similar plea.
