Hyderabad: TRS MP B Vinod Kumar urged the Centre to grant special status to Telangana to promote industrialisation and economic growth.
The TRS MP in a letter to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley urged the Centre to grant special status to the new
state on the lines of Andhra Pradesh.
"It was learnt from the print media, that the Finance Minister had held a meeting with top officials of Andhra Pradesh and announced that Special Status to AP will be granted within a fortnight.
"In this regard, the press statements hurt feelings of 4.5 crore people of Telangana and alarming for the Telangana government for not including its name in the announcements," Kumar said in the letter.
It was also mentioned in the letter that Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitharaman had also stated about the announcement at Vijayawada on November 7.
Referring to certain provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, Kumar said special benefits should be rendered to Telangana.
"I further submit that, according to AP Reorganisation Act, Section 94 (1), the Central Government shall take appropriate fiscal measures including offer of tax incentives to the successor states, to promote industrialisation and economic growth in both states.
"Sub section (2) says the central government shall support the programs for the development of backward areas in the successor states, including expansion of physical and social infrastructure," the letter read.
