Chennai: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president E.V.K.S. Elangovan continued to put up a brave face by accommodating new comers in the party even as Vasan and his company packed their bags to New Delhi to secure the name Tamil Maanila Congress (TMC).Welcoming dozens of new comers, Elangovan appealed to his party men not to give in to rumours. Meanwhile, sources close to Vasan said that they would be leaving city for New Delhi on Sunday to complete the formalities stipulated by Election Commission of India (ECI).
A Vasan confidant reasoned that they would not have any problems in retaining the name TMC and Chidambaram has no stakes in the name considering that he had floated a separate party after quitting TMC.
“Yes Chidambaram was a senior TMC leader. But, he quit TMC and launched a new party, so where does the question of him having stakes in TMC raise even,” the leader close to the former shipping minister reasoned.
