Secundarabad Cantonment Board goes to polls in January
A special voters list in accordance with Cantonment Act, 2006 has been prepared
Hyderabad: Over 2.38 lakh voters in Secunderabad Cantonment Board will go to the polls on January 11 next to elect board members (administrative). Ministry of defence has released official gazette to conduct simultaneous elections in 56 cantonments across the country.
“A special voters list in accordance with Cantonment Act, 2006 has been prepared and model code of conduct has come into effect from Friday,” said an SCB official.
SCB authorities also completed the long pending reservation process in eight wards. Wards I, II, V and VI will be in the general category, while Wards III, IV, VII have been reserved for women. Ward VIII has been reserved for SCs.
SCB, which is the largest cantonment region across the country, is going through election for the second time after enactment of Cantonment Act, 2006. The first election was held in May 8, 2008, and the five-year term of the board ended on June 5, 2013. The term of the board was extended by a year due to non-finalisation of the election date.
