MANGALURU: This first-time Congress MLC, Ivan D’Souza, overreached himself while criticising BJP leader K.S. Eshwarappa for his controversial remarks, and ended up receiving a notice from KPCC president Dr. G. Parameshwar as well as brickbats from other senior leaders of the ruling party on Saturday.
Mr. D’Souza, who invited media persons to condemn Mr. Eshwarappa, overstepped his limits with his query: “Shall I ask, what will happen if I rape Eshwarappa’s wife? What will Eshwarappa do? What will be his reaction? This is not political culture.”
When media persons objected, he tried to defend himself, but addressed them again in the afternoon and apologised to Mr. Eshwarappa and his kin.
“I have realised that what I said is wrong. I apologise to Mr. Eshwarappa and his family. I have also apologised to Chief Minister on this (issue),” he added.
Dr. Parameshwar, who apologised to Mr. Eshwarappa, dashed off a notice to Mr. D’Souza. Mr. D’Souza was nominated to the Legislative Council in June 2014.
