Indian Oil Corporation plans storage point in Telangana
It is all set to establish a huge fuel storage point in Maheshwaram mandal of Ranga Reddy district
Hyderabad: Indian Oil Corporation is all set to establish a huge fuel storage point in Maheshwaram mandal of Ranga Reddy district to ensure adequate fuel supplies to Telangana State.
The state government has already identified 120 acres land for the project, which is expected to be allotted to IOC soon.
A few districts have been facing shortage of diesel and petrol after the bifurcation, though Hyderabad has remained immune to shortages with the presence of a storage point in Charlapally in the city outskirts.
OMCs have four fuel storage points at Charlapally, Ramagundam, Suryapet and Guntakal. However, the fuel has to be transported from Vizag via Vijayawada. After bifurcation, the AP government has been demanding taxes for fuel coming from Vizag and Vijayawada to Telangana districts at the inter-state borders.
There is no clarity over who has to pay the tax, the OMCs or the dealers. While the OMCs say that dealers have to pay the tax, the latter say they have received no instructions to this effect. The OMCs say the jurisdiction of four stock points was modified which had led to temporary disruption of supplies.
“Officials have identified about 120 acres in Maheshwaran for the IOC project. IOC feels that this would be the ideal location to set up the project. They gave a representation to this effect which is under active consideration of the government,” said finance minister Etela Rajender.
