Berth for Telangana State, Andhra Pradesh in Union Cabinet
Bandaru Dattatreya, Sujana Chowdary to take oath
Hyderabad: The 29th state in the Indian Union, Telangana, is to find representation in the Union Council of Ministers on Sunday. Senior BJP MP from Secunderabad and former Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya will make it to the Narendra Modi team.
First time MP and a close confidant of AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Yelamanchali Satyanarayana Chowdary (Sujana Chowdary) is also going to be inducted as minister of state on Sunday.
Mr Modi on Saturday morning contacted both the leaders and conveyed his intention to induct them in his Cabinet. However, it will be known only on Sunday whether Mr Dattatreya will be a minister of Cabinet rank or MoS (Independent Charge).
Mr Dattatreya, a four-time Lok Sabha member has already served in the A.B. Vajpayee government between 1998 and 2004 as MoS for some time before being elevated as MoS (Independent Charge).
Sources in the BJP said Mr Dattatreya would be taken in as Cabinet minister in view of his experience both as minister and as MP and will be the senior most among the 17 that are to join the Cabinet.
Bandaru Dattatreya is likely to join the Union Cabinet with 17 others. When Prime Minister Narendra Modi formed his Cabinet on May, 26, Andhra Pradesh was united, but still there was criticism about non-representation from the Telangana region.
Later, on June 2 Telangana state became a reality and now it is finding a place in the very first expansion of the Union Cabinet.
Reacting to his induction, Mr Dattatreya said, “I am very happy after I got a call from Mr Modi this morning. I don’t know which post and portfolio I am going to get. I was asked by the PM to be present at his residence around 10 am on Sunday, but whatever post I get tomorrow, I will do justice to Telangana and also to residuary AP along with other states.
There shall be equal justice to one and all.” TD Rajya Sabha member Sujana Chowdary said the Prime Minister informed him about taking him as a minister-of-state.
“Right now I am the leader of the Telugu Desam parliamentary party and also serving as a first-time MP. I am happy to be a minister-of-state. I am thankful to my leader, AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for choosing me to serve the Union Cabinet.
I am confident I can handle any portfolio that is going to be entrusted to me.” AP Chief Minister Mr Naidu is expected to attend the swearing-in-ceremony in Delhi on Sunday.
