Bengaluru: Each of the eight B.Com and BBM students, who were caught writing in the answer scripts after the exam hours in Bengaluru on Friday late evening, had shelled out '3,000 per subject to get marks illegally, said investigating officers.
Seven B.Com students and a BBM student, including a girl, were caught red-handed by the Basavanagudi police on Friday evening when they were filling answer scripts sitting in a house on DVG Road in Gandhi Bazaar.
The exam for Methods and Techniques of Cost Accounting got over at their college at 5 pm, but these eight students, all from fifth semester, were in possession of the answer scripts after the exam hours.
They were sitting in the house of one of the arrested students when they were caught. “An attendant from their college, Vijay, had brought the answer scripts to the house.
The scam worked like this, the students would attend the exam, leave the spaces for the questions that they do not know the answers for blank, hand over their answer scripts and leave the college premises.
A college staffer in this case Vijay – would later get their answer sheets to a pre-designated place, allow them to answer the questions by copying and insert these answer sheets back into the evaluation lot.
The students involved in the scam got undue advantage and they would score higher marks, a senior police officer said.
Bangalore University Registrar (Evaluation), Prof, Ninge Gowda, tipped off the police and filed a complaint. The raid was conducted immediately after, the officer said.
The police arrested college Principal Srinivas Rao Mane, college superintendent Basavaraju, second division clerk Nagendra, Vijay and the eight students.
The students have been identified as Ashwin Jadhav, Manjunath, Dasharat, Santhosh, Naveen, Arun, Chetan and Kanchana. The owner of the house, Subash Babu Jadhav, who is Ashwin’s father, has also been arrested.
The answer scripts and other documents have been seized. The police are trying to find out whether other staff members were also involved in the scam, said a senior police officer.
The police produced all the accused before a magistrate on Saturday evening.
