No more larger than life

Currently, SRK is committed to Raees and Fan

After the back-to-back successes of Chennai Express and Happy New Year, Shah Rukh Khan’s brand value has increased and how! But now the actor is tired of doing larger-than-life cinema. Currently, SRK is committed to two more big-ticket films, Raees and Fan. The over-worked superstar has taken a few days off before starting on these projects. Eager to do something different, he has expressed a desire to do a film on a smaller scale.

“I’m tired of doing larger than life films. It takes a toll physically and emotionally. I’m looking for an interesting small budget and small set up film. Yes, I’m meeting a lot of debutant writers and directors. I want to do a film that has an intense story and not too much glitz and glamour,” says Shah Rukh.

He admits that he has been thinking about it since quite some time now. “The impact of a realistic and non-commercial film like Chak De does strike a chord with the audience. A simple film with a strong message and without too much commercialisation is what I’d want to do,” says SRK.

But can a film with his name attached to it ever be “small budget”? “As an actor, I’ve always believed that a script is what makes a film larger than life. An actor’s name might boost the commercial viability. At the end of the day, a mediocre film will go unnoticed and a good film will be applauded, irrespective of the big names associated with it,” he says.

In the past, Shah Rukh’s attempt to underplay his superstar image has worked for him in films such as Chak De and Swades.
