Manohar Parrikar resigns as Goa CM, BJP to decide on new leadership today
New Delhi: Manohar Parrikar submitted his resignation as the Chief Minister of Goa on Saturday. The BJP Parliamentary board met and discussed the issue of appointment of its new legislature party leader in Goa.
Party General Secretary J P Nadda said here that the Parliamentary board discussed the political situation in Goa as well as the name of BJP nominee for a Rajya Sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh.
A final decision will be announced at 4 PM today, Nadda said.
The meeting was chaired by BJP President Amit Shah. Parrikar is set to resign as Goa CM as he is tipped to be inducted in the Union Cabinet, which will be expanded on Sunday.
The race for the Goa Chief Minister's post has intensified with Deputy Chief Minister Francis D'Souza throwing his hat into the ring while Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has emerged as the front-runner to succeed Parrikar. Names of other leaders have also been doing rounds for the position.
BJP's Goa state MLA's are also scheduled to hold a meeting at 12.30 PM on the issue of choosing their new leader.
