Top brass pressure may force reshuffle
Bengaluru: Under pressure from the Congress central leadership, Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah is contemplating a reshuffle of his cabinet soon.
After meeting central leaders, the CM spoke to reporters in New Delhi and dropped enough hints that the cabinet reshuffle was round the corner.
"The reshuffle is one such activity that might take place once we complete the process of appointments to state run boards and corporations. We will be coming back to Delhi on November 16 to discuss this issue," he added.
Meanwhile speaking to Deccan Chronicle, a senior leader in Delhi observed that central leaders were worried over the reports of Brand Bengaluru taking a beating of late. "What has rattled them are reports that industry captains like Infosys are openly threatening to relocate their headquarters elsewhere.
The sexual harassment cases cropping up in the last couple of months is another reason why AICC general secretary, Digvijay Singh came to Bengaluru on Wednesday to take stock of the government’s performance. And now the party is issuing a warning to Mr Siddaramaiah and his cabinet," the source said.
According to the source, central leaders also wonder why there wasn’t a feeling of the government taking off though it had been in power for one and a half years. This question was reportedly posed to the CM by senior leaders.
"Mr Siddaramaiah faced a volley of questions on why he had not been able to break the jinx attached to him.
A senior leader pointed out to him that in spite of Mr Singh repeatedly advising him to change his style of functioning by giving away some of his portfolios to other leaders in the party in order to focus on party and image building, he had not done so," the source claimed.
Mr Singh had told the media during an earlier visit that the success of any CM lies in man-management and not in file management. For this to happen, the CM should have only one or two portfolios instead of half a dozen portfolios.
"A leader asked Mr Siddaramaiah to explain why he had not carried out the cabinet reshuffle or given his portfolios to other ministers. Though, Mr Siddaramaiah tried his best to explain, no leader seems to have bought his argument,” the source explained.
