Hyderabad: The Telangana government has decided to introduce Sanskrit and Arabic as second language subjects from the next academic year.
Drawing curtains over the controversy on Sanskrit and Telugu composite subject, the government finally decided to do away with it this year and to introduce Sanskrit as a second language next year.
TS had introduced examination reforms for Class IX and X under the state board. The Sanskrit and Telugu composite subject was done away with from this year.
However, a month later, the government rolled back the changes regarding the composite subject after pressure from lobby groups and top officials in the CMO.
But preparations regarding this academic year’s Class X state board exams had already begun and the roll back could have even delayed the exams next year.
Despite orders to keep the reforms in abeyance, logistical processes continued as usual without the inclusion of Sanskrit and Telugu composite subject.
However, the government has finally decided against the roll back and said Sanskrit and Arabic would be introduced next year.
Higher education secretary Vikas Raj said the abeyance orders would be cancelled and instructions have been issued to introduce the two subjects as second languages next year.
