It’s time George quit, says H D Kumaraswamy
Hassan: Slamming the state government for its "irresponsible" manner in handling a series of cases of rape, JD (S) leader H D Kumaraswamy on Friday demanded that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should ask home minister K J George quit on grounds that he has lost the confidence of people.
"So far, I had not demanded the resignation of Mr. George even though many cases of rape were reported, but from the time the state government appointed an advisor of the rank of a cabinet minister (former police officer Kempaiah) to the home minister, nothing substantial happened.
I have been observing the case of death of a girl in Tirthahalli. Seven to eight days have passed but no arrests have been made so far.
This has given to rise to suspicion among people that the state government was trying to protect somebody," he told reporters.
The former chief minister did not spare leaders of BJP, and charged that they were politicizing the death of the 14 year-old girl in Tirthahalli. "I am pained over her death," he added.
Reacting to the statement of his father and party patriarch H. D. Deve Gowda that Mr. Kumaraswamy was responsible for the party's decline in the state, he said: "I do not know in which context Mr. Deve Gowda made the statement.
Probably, he might have been referring to JD (S) forming a coalition government with the BJP in 2006. I have made mistakes, and will rectify them in future."
