Arkavathy redo: BJP in quandary
Bengaluru: Leaders of the state unit of BJP have decided to take their campaign against the state government on the alleged scam in denotification of land in Arkavathy layout to the logical end, but are likely to decide the mode of protests only after their probe team submits its final report on the issue.
In the 300-page interim report submitted on Thursday, the fact-finding committee headed by former BJP ministers V. Somanna and S. Suresh Kumar has listed large-scale violations on the part of officials of BDA and the state government while denotifying vast tracts of land in Arkavathy layout.
Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, Jagadish Shettar, who first raised the issue and levelled allegations against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, said he would continue his campaign against the state government though the ruling Congress had resorted to politics of vendetta by registering cases against him.
“I will definitely take this issue to its logical end. We will seek the opinion of legal experts on whether we should resort to a legal battle against the state government,” Mr. Shettar told Deccan Chronicle.
The leaders, however, are undecided about whether to depose before a judicial inquiry instituted by the state government following an uproar in both Houses of Legislature earlier this year.
Though they demanded a probe by officers of CBI instead of a judicial probe, the leaders said they would take a call on deposing before the judicial commission after consulting the party’s legal cell. State president Pralhad Joshi said the party would take a decision soon in this regard.
Meanwhile, sources said the leaders are contemplating to meet Governor Vajubhai Vala and brief him about the alleged scam after the fact-finding committee submits its final report.
