Therapy in a bubble right on New York streets

Anyone can stop by, relax and get a free 15-minute session with a professional

Washington: At a busy Manhattan intersection stand two transparent domes. As the city’s iconic sirens, cabs and pigeons fly by, a woman sits in a dome remains focused, with an iPad in her hands.

The woman is actually in the middle of a therapy session, is texting with the Talkspace app, which offers digital, real-time mental health support from licensed therapists, Mashable reports.

The installation, also called PopupTherapy, started on Wednesday to raise awareness and inspire transparency across many mental health care units.

The goal is to show that therapy can be accessible and affordable, and that it’s nothing to be ashamed of.

Anyone can stop by, relax and get a free 15-minute session with a professional. Talkspace's cofoun-der, Roni Frank said the idea came a few few months ago when a friend of hers committed suicide.

“For him, it was like, 'I'm not going to admit that I have depression; that means I’m weak, that means I’m not normal, that means something’s not ok with me.,” she told Mashable.

She clarified that outlooks like that don’t make sense to her. When you have cancer, you don’t ignore it. why would you ignore depression?” she asked.
