Vaiko's criticism of the Modi government angers Tamil Nadu BJP

MDMK chief’s remarks leave saffron party irritated
Chennai: MDMK chief Vaiko’s caustic criticism of the Modi government is causing resentment among BJP leaders and members in the state.
There is a general mood in the saffron party here that he does not appear to stick to coalition dharma. Although he does not seem to personally target the BJP or its policies, his remarks on certain issues concerning the fishermen, for instance, is causing resentment by the day, says a senior BJP leader.
“He is concerned only about Sri Lanka issues and nothing beyond,” expresses state BJP vice-president M. Chakravarthy. Many in our party are not happy with the way Mr Vaiko is flaying the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. We have been taking concrete steps and even in the case of the five Tamil Nadu fishermen facing the noose in Lanka, Union shipping minister Nitin Gadkari had assured steps by government,” he said.
Another leader pointed out that it was wrong to blame the BJP government on the fishermen’s issue because the Congress-led UPA government was responsible for the deterioration and had done little during its ten year tenure.
Senior party leader Dr Subramanian Swamy has unambiguously and vehemently pitched in for the ouster of the MDMK from the BJP’s NDA.
Terming the ally’s conduct as “antithetical” to the nationalistic outlook of the coalition parties, Dr Swamy urged the party high command to take action on Mr Vaiko for his “crass anti nationalism and covert secessionist pronouncements.”
“Mr Swamy is right in censoring the MDMK leader for his recent comments. Our allies have access to our central leaders and nothing prevents them from approaching our leaders on any issue,” says Mr Chakravarthy.
