Cyclonic storm losing steam, heavy rain forecast in many AP districts

The depression as on Thursday was 560 km off the Vizag coast

Visakhapatnam: The Indian Meteorological Department forecast has revealed that Andhra Pradesh and Odisha need not worry about the cyclonic storm brewing up in the Bay of Bengal as it is expected to weaken and turn into a depression again when it makes land fall.

The depression as on Thursday was 560 km off the Vizag coast and 690 km from Paradip coast.

It is expected to move in a northwest direction and intensify into a cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours by Friday afternoon with wind speeds reaching up to 90 kmph.

Once it has been accorded cyclonic storm status, it will be named Soba, a name provided by Sri Lanka as per the list of cyclone names put up by the IMD on its website.

As per the IMD forecast, the cyclonic storm will gradually weaken into a deep-depression with maximum wind speed reaching 75 kmph on Saturday. It will further weaken into a depression on Sunday with maximum wind speed of 65 kmph.

It is expected to make landfall as a depression on Sunday morning resulting in moderate rainfall in many AP districts.
