Panchasahasra Deepalankarana performed
5,000 diyas werer lit on temple premises on occasion of Kartika Pournami
Karimnagar/Khammam: A large number of devotees performed Panchasahasra Deepalankarana, a unique tradition of lighting up 5,000 diyas on the steps of the holy pond located on the premises of Sri Laxminarasimha Swamy temple in Dharmapuri on the occasion of Kartika Pournami, on Thursday. Over 50,000 women devotees from Karimnagar and neighbouring states including Maharashtra, TN and residuary AP lit diyas on the temple premises.
According to the Hindu mythology, both goddess Lakshmi and the moon god were born while skimming 'pala samudram' on Kartika Pournami. In Khammam, devotees thronged Siva and Vishnu temples on the occasion. The temples reverberated with the chantings of ‘Om Namah Sivaaya’, ‘Hara Hara Mahadeva’, ‘Govinda Govinda’.
