Khammam: The allocation for various irrigation projects in Khammam district in the budget left farmers and irrigation experts in Telangana disappointed.Farmers were disappointed with the meagre allocation of Rs25 crore to the second phase of Sriramsagar project. Farmers’ association leader R. Ranga Rao said the fields in drought-hit Tirumalayapalem mandal would get water only if the government allocated
Rs60 crore to the SRSP in the budget.
“The allocation to the project in Khammam is not adequate. In fact, the government had not conducted proper study on the projects in the district,” he said.The Rajivsagar-Dummugudem lift irrigation project has been planned to supply water to dry lands in the district by lifting water from Godavari.
Farmers in 15 mandals in the district have been waiting since long for completion of the project which is estimated to cost
Rs2,000 crore. But, the government, which spent Rs900 crore so far, has allocated only Rs11 crore in the budget this time.
