Dengue spurt in Salem, 26 in hospital
Six children have been admitted with fever but their condition is stable
Salem: Dengue cases have gone up in Salem too with 26 patients at the Salem Government Hospital getting treated for the dengue fever in October this month. According to the government hospital Dean, Dr N. Mohan, six children have been admitted with fever. But they have not shown symptoms of dengue and their condition is stable. With monsoon rains lashing Salem, the dengue cases went up to 26 in the district last month.
Between August and October this year, 66 patients suffering from dengue fever have been treated at the hospital. They have completely recovered from dengue, the Dean said.
In taluk hospitals in Salem district, eight patients have been admitted with symptoms of dengue fever, the Salem Deputy Director of Health, Dr N. Vijayalakshmi said. Special wards have been set up in the taluk hospital to treat the dengue patients and health workers were carrying out awareness campaigns in rural areas on the causes and prevention of the spread of the dengue fever.
In Namakkal district, as many as 502 health workers have been deployed for door to door screening of patients for dengue and spreading awareness about the disease. The villagers have been advised to take nila vembu juice to prevent contracting the dengue fever, the Deputy Director of Health, Dr B.R.Gemini said.
About 400 temporary workers have been roped in in Erode district for carrying out a dengue survey in villages, the Erode Deputy Director of Health, Dr.P.Balusamy said. Details are patients suffering from flu are being collected at all the primary health centres and sub-centres, he added.
