Rare confluence of Football and Cricket
Battle of wits between Sachin, Virat Kohli in Kochi today
Kochi: Kerala is all set to witness a rare confluence of cricket and football at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, home for both games, on Thursday.
As Kerala Blasters venture into their first home match against FC Goa in the Indian Super League, the state will witness the faceoff between two sets of sporting icons.
While Brazilian football great Zico will try to mastermind a Goan win against former England goalkeeper David James who manages Kerala Blasters, it is also a battle of wits between Blasters co-owner Sachin Tendulkar and Goa’s dashing sponsor Virat Kohli.
The Blasters are home after a lengthy trail of five away matches and Sachin has confirmed his presence at the venue. The master blaster will also hand over a copy of his autobiography ‘Playing It My Way’ to ISL founder Nita Ambani.
“Sachin will also felicitate the services and reward the families of war victims,” said a senior member of the Blasters management.
Manager James senses a ‘huge relief’ on coming home and has vowed to give his best shot to win. “It is a massive game for us. Goal scoring has been a problem for us so far but we’ve tried to rectify it,” said the former England international.
Meanwhile, the Blasters management said it was expecting a sellout as just 9,000 tickets remain to be sold. “Of the 60,500 total seats we have managed to sell at least 40,000 and about 10-15 percent has gone as complimentary,” said club secretary Rajeev Kamineni.
