Visakhapatnam: Tourism department officials mooted an authority on the lines of Buddha Purnima Project Authority (BPPA) in Hyderabad to develop 14 major tourist attractions identified between Ramakrishna Beach and Bheemili in Vizag city to attract more tourists in future.
Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) Corporation Ltd is preparing plans to develop iconic tourist spots in the city.
Union tourism ministry had already allocated Rs 45 crore to develop 30-km long Vizag-Bheemili beach corridor mega tourism circuit project in the state. IL & FS is of the opinion that a special authority might be appointed to speed up beach corridor works and later maintenance of those spots.
The beach corridor project include development of RK Beach, VUDA Park, Beach Park, Kailasagiri, Rushikonda, Thotlakonda, Bhavikonda, Pavuralakonda, Erramattidibbalu and Bheemili and beautification of the beach corridor.
Vice-president of IL & FS Srinivas Banda said Indian Navy will be hosting the International Fleet Review (IFR) in February 2016 in Vizag, in which warships from various countries are slated to take part and wherein apart from a large number of ships, dignitaries from various countries would participate so that it’s a best chance to showcase the city as tourists’ best destination in Andhra Pradesh.
He said IL&FS has identified 14 tourist points for development of the city and if the special authority is finalized the works can begin quickly and more chances to complete before the IFR.
He added this development would attract more and more tourists per year in the coming years.
Sources said that the special authority will develop the identified tourist spots through a consultative process and a senior IAS officer will monitor the works and complete the project in stipulated time.
The coastal city of Vizag is all set to make waves on the global map as a tourism hotspot. APTDC along with infrastructure giant IL & FS has drawn up plan to develop Vizag as tourism destination.
BPPA was constituted for development of Hussian Sagar Lake and its environs and similarly we also mooted such authority to boost the works of beach corridor project told, senior officials of APTDC.
