RTC looks at Brazil for transport solutions
Dedicated bus transit corridors, higher passenger capacity buses are some of the areas
Kochi: It is not only Brazilian football, but also its transportation system that is admired by Keralites.
Dedicated bus transit corridors, higher passenger capacity buses, efficient IT-enabled passenger services and the Bus Intelligent Transport System would be some of the areas that the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation would look to emulate from the Brazilian transportation system in future.
KSRTC MD Antony Chacko and Thiruvananthapuram zonal officer G. Anil Kumar are part of a 50-member delegation from the country which has embarked on a week-long study tour to Brazil with focus on infrastructure and IT.
“The intention is to adopt the best practices of the Brazilian transportation system. Cities like Delhi have already done this. The Intelligent Transport system there is world class. We’ve plans to start the same here. The benefits include real-time tracking and monitoring of buses, dynamic passenger information system, advanced display and communication technologies and central control station,” said a senior official.
The tour is sponsored by the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU), a body with the country’s all state road transport corporations as its members. The delegation would attend a transport exhibition-cum-conference in Rio de Janeiro and visit Sao Paulo. The officers who left for Brasilia on October 31 last will return on November 9.
