Massive cut in Telangana Assembly timings
Hyderabad: For the first time in the country, the Telangana Legislature’s (Assembly and Council) daily business will henceforth be limiting to three-and- a-half hours, instead of five that had been the practice for the last five decades.
The Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha sits for six hours daily and almost all legislatures in the country sit for five hours.
A decision to this effect was taken in the Business Advisory Committee meeting held by both the presiding officers of Telangana Legislature on Wednesday.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who was present during the BAC meeting, conveyed the decision citing reduction of strength of the Assembly from the earlier 295 in united AP to 120 after bifurcation.
However, the residuary AP Assembly, which was constituted after bifurcation with a reduced strength of 175 members, continued the five-hour tradition in its recently concluded Budget session.
The timings of the two Houses of the Telangana Legislature have been modified. The Assembly will commence at 10 am and conclude at 1.30 pm, with a 15 minute tea break.
