Government to set up 4 processing plants at Mandur
BENGALURU: The state government, rushing to meet the deadline in Mandur where garbage dumping has to be stopped from November 30, will set up four waste processing plants to clear accumulated waste.
District in-charge minister Ramalinga Reddy told Deccan Chronicle that the processing units would be set up at a cost of Rs 90 crore, and the proposal has been sent for cabinet approval.
“It will take about four years to clear the accumulated waste. Fresh garbage will not be sent to Mandur. As per the high court direction, the government and BBMP have to identify waste processing units at all assembly constituencies.
Mandur will be the last resort to have a processing plant for fresh waste. We try to find another location,” he said.
During the monthly review meeting at Vikas Soudha on Wednesday Mr Reddy directed officials to gear up and added that a waste processing plant will be set up at Mavallipura as per the directions from the high court.
Villagers at Mandur, however, said that they would allow the government to set up only one processing unit, and not four, as they could add to the problems.
“It is in the interest of health and environment of Mandur. After seeing the functioning of the plant, the villagers will decide on allowing more such waste processing plants,” they said.
