Bengaluru: While hearing a PIL over the incidents of the death of two children by drowning in open drains and pits in Bengaluru, the Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed the authorities concerned to file an affidavit in the next hearing giving details of those officials responsible and action taken against them.
The PIL was filed by Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrasekhar, in the aftermath of the death of two children in quick succession by drowning in open drains and pits in Bengaluru, the court also directed the concerned authorities to take disciplinary action against irresponsible officials.
Earlier the court also took police authorities to task for failing to act swiftly over the matter. Meanwhile the city police submitted before the court that they have filed an FIR, and questioned seven persons in connection with the incident.
Soon after filing the FIR, two junior engineers and one assistant engineer, who worked in that zone, have obtained anticipatory bail.
The PIL also prays for direction from the court, to the Chief Secretary, Karnataka, to initiate criminal prosecutions against such deviant and errant officers, who are guilty of criminal negligence, resulting in the failure of governance and administration in the city.
