Depression may intensify into Cyclone
Visakhapatnam: The low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal developed into a depression on Tuesday and will further intensify into a deep depression in the next 24 hours.
The Indian Meteorological Department said that the monsoon depression is located 690 kms away from Visakhapatnam.
The Joint Typhoon Warning Centre at Pearl Harbour has indicated that the system is gradually strengthening into a tropical cyclone. The report mentions that conditions are favourable for its progression.
Officials in AP are on high alert in case the depression turns into a tropical cyclone. Principal secretary of the energy department Ajay Jain said they had ordered material which would be positioned at Vijayawada. It would be shifted to the south or the north coast depending on necessity and possible landfall of the cyclone.
