BJP is politicising sexual attacks: CM Siddaramaiah

The BJP had rapists as members of its Cabinet

MYSURU: Asserting that his government was stable and nobody could destabilise it, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday accused BJP leaders of politicising the rapes that had been reported in the state as they could not fault the administration on any other count.

“The law and order situation is totally under control in the state. The BJP is only trying to make false allegations to mislead the people and destablise the government,” he charged, speaking to reporters here.

In reply to a question, he, however, hastened to add that he was not defending the rapes that had been taking place in the state. “ Even the smallest of such incidents will be considered seriously and those guilty punished severely. But they should not be politicised,” he said.

As for his raking up the church attacks in the state during the tenure of the last BJP government , he said, “ I only asked if the law and order was intact when churches and homestays were being attacked during BJP rule.

Let them clarify on this. The BJP had rapists as members of its Cabinet. It has no moral right to question us,” he contended, claiming that the BJP was trying to disrupt law and order in the state by creating communal disharmony in several places like Chikmagalur only to destabilise his government.

Mr Siddaramaiah, who was in the city for a series of programmes, recalled his own college days while inaugurating the M.Com course at D Banumaiah College, which has produced several luminaries

Revealing that he had friends in Banumaiah college although he studied in a different college in Mysuru, he said, “I was thrashed when I went to defend my friend from Banumaiah in 1971.”

A painful memory, but clearly one he has not forgotten.
