Sagar seethes, bandh total
SHIVAMOGGA: A bandh called by the BJP and other organisations condemning the suspicious death of a girl in Tirthahalli was total in Sagar town. Barring some minor incidents of stone pelting at the City Municipal Council building and torching a pushcart, the bandh was peaceful.
Schools, colleges and business establishments remained shut and buses and autorickshaws remained off the road after 10 am. In response to the bandh, traders and shopkeepers voluntarily closed their business establishments for a day.
Meanwhile, places such as Anandapuram, Talaguppa, Jog, Kargal, Tumari, Hosanagar and Ripponpet also observed bandh. The lawyers also suspended their proceedings for a day in support to the bandh call.
Meanwhile the Malnad town of Tirthahalli was returning to normal. The ABVP has called for state-wide college bandh and planned to stage dharna in front of District In-charge Minister Kimmane Rathnakar’s office in Shivamogga on Thursday.
