Kimmane Rathnakar: No axe to grind
Shivamogga: The Primary and Secondary Education Minister Kimmane Rathnakar has done it again! Instead of empathising with a father who has lost his 14-year-old daughter to a bizarre attack and possible attempted rape, the Congress leader not only questioned the father’s motives in taking several hours to register the complaint, he also implied that the father was involved in the young girl’s death, hinting it could be an honour killing.
The district in-charge Minister, Kimmane Rathnakar, has questioned the conduct of the deceased girl’s father in the Tirthahalli case.
While talking to presspersons here on Wednesday, he raised several questions hinting at father’s alleged involvement in the death of his own daughter.
“In the complaint lodged by the father on October 31 night, almost seven hours after the girl’s death, it has not mentioned names of culprits involved in the incident. Police had to collect evidences if they have to nab the culprits. Instead they cannot arrest anybody bowing to pressure from all corners.”
When asked why the doctors at the Tirthahalli and the Shimoga government hospitals had referring the case as medico-legal, even after the girl told them that she was given water mixed something unknown, the Minister replied that if the doctors’ dereliction of duty was found they would not be spared.
Likewise, if any lapses by policemen were found, they would also face action, he cautioned.
Later Mr Rathnakar told Deccan Chronicle, “The father of the victim is not allowing his house and shop to be searched to conduct a thorough investigation.
If we try to carry out search at this time it may create more unrest or enrage them. I will reveal everything about this case once normalcy returns to the town and surrounding areas.”
‘I am 100% secular’
Earlier Mr Rathnakar said he neither had lust for power nor money. “I am a cent percent secular man. I do not have any communal background. I will not lose anything if some people were arrested,” he said.
He said the BJP and its co-organisations were giving the issue a political colour and creating communal disharmony in the region.
