Police open 10 rounds of fire to quell violent mob at Kristipadu
Anantapur: The police on Wednesday opened fire at least 10 rounds in the air following clash between two groups at Kristipadu village under Peddavad-ugur mandal in the district. At least 10 persons including three policemen sustained injuries and two police jeeps have been vandalised during the clash. Tadipatri TD leader P. Nagaraju said, there ha-ve been differences betw-een Dalits and Sarpanch group over offering ‘pan-akam’ to peerlu (idols) on the occasion of concluding session of Muharram in the village.
Sarpanch Dastagiri gr-oup and Dalits had a qu-arrel which ignited cla-sh between both groups on Tuesday and turned as group clash between Dalits and upper castes. Though police had pacified the situation on Tuesday by posting additional forces, village tur-ned as violent on Wednesday.Police directed milk pr-ocurement vendor K. Ka-malakar Reddy to set up separate procurement counter at dalit colony as part of preventive measures. Normally, there was only milk procurement in the village. Dalit colony farmers were refused to give at the separate counter on Wednesday morning and came towards regular procurement centre.
Meanwhile, a group of Dalits abused a woman of upper caste while going via Dalit colony and sent her forcibly from area. The woman went to house and infor-med about the incident that infuriated the upper castes and large number of them attacked on the Dalit colony with stones, rods and hard sticks. The group attacked on dalits who were coming towards milk procurement point. Feared of attack, the Dalits ran away into their houses and closed doors. Police forces who were at the village tried to control the situation after lathicharge on the mobs. The activists further attac-ked on policemen and vandalised two jeeps.
Police opened 10 rounds of fire in the air to disburse mobs. SP S.V. Rajasekhar Babu rushed to the spot and also deployed additional forces to bring the situation under control. Tense situation prevailed in the village. Cases registered against both groups.
