Cops suspect close relatives of professor
Coimbatore: A special team has been formed to arrest the culprits behind the brutal murder of a woman assistant professor and the gruesome attack on her mother at Karamadai on Tuesday.
The police suspect that persons close to the assistant professor’s family may have committed the brutal murder.
On Wednesday, the police had interrogated about 40 persons in Karamadai, including the family members, relatives and friends of the deceased. The police have obtained vital leads and are closing in on the culprits, sources said.
D. Ramya (24), an Assistant Professor at Akshaya College of Engineering and Technology at Kinathukadavu, was found murdered and her mother D. Malathi was lying unconscious with grievous injuries, in their house at Ganesh Nagar, near Teachers Colony, in Karamadai, on Tuesday afternoon on the city’s outskirts, about 35 km from Coimbatore.
The police said Ramya’s mother Malathi(48) was a home-maker and father Dharmaraj (50) is working at the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) at Kotagiri, in Nilgiris district.
Dharmaraj owned a house at Karamadai where his wife Malathi, his daughter Ramya and mother–in-law Rangammal (70) were residing. On Monday, Dharmaraj left for work at Kotagiri and Rangammal had gone to a relative’s house at Mettupalayam.
Around 3 pm on Tuesday, Dharmaraj reached home at Karamadai and found his daughter dead in pool of a blood and his wife Malathi lying with grievoius injuries on the head.
The Karamadai police rushed to spot and initiated a probe.
