I am still learning: Ranveer Singh

Ranveer Singh talks about his upcoming film Kill Dil, pointers from his directors

Mumbai: Ranveer Singh had a great time while shooting for the upcoming film Kill Dil.

“We would all talk nonsense on the sets of Kill Dil. All of us spoke bakwas and would then laugh… Parineeti and Ali (Zafar) bored us with their singing the whole day long,” he adds with a smile.

When asked about his distress mantra, the actor can’t help but get naughty. “There’s one thing, but I won’t tell you… try to guess. It always makes you feel good and fresh. It’s also good for health.” Laughing aloud, he adds, “After all, I am the brand ambassador for a condom company.”

On a serious note, he says, “I play video games sometimes... I also distress myself by working out… Us waqt sirf meri atma mere saath hoti hai. I also swim.”

Ranveer is practically a newcomer in the industry but he is already counted as one of the rising stars. The actor says, “After doing six films, I am still trying to learn. Earlier I would do a lot of preparations before going in front of the cameras. But Shaad (Shaad Ali, the director of Kill Dil) also told me that ‘you need to keep your feelings loose’. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali had also advised me to be spontaneous.”

“And there was Govinda, who arrives on the sets simply asking, ‘Ok, what is the scene? What do I have to perform? What has happened in the prior scenes?’ and then goes on to perform an eight-minute scene. He is a spontaneous actor and I was astounded to see him give takes so brilliantly. Therefore I am also trying to be spontaneous in my performances.”

Talking about Kill Dil’s trade prospects, Ranveer says, “The critics’ ‘stars’ and the box office should not matter to a film. Lootera had got the most stars… it was a critically acclaimed film. I care for a film that will be remembered over the years. There may be so many films that are watched by each and every person, but after he comes out of the theatres, he says, ‘Theekh thi’. Such films do not remain in the hearts and the minds of the audiences. I believe a film, which is a cult film, is not liked initially. It is then said that the film was made much ahead of its time.” Ranveer is now working on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani. Talking about the character, Ranveer says, “I usually start living all my characters in real. I remember my dad and I had gone for dinner and he told me that I was ‘behaving seriously’. I do mould in accordance to the character. I have worked very hard for Bajirao’s character. I had to imbibe his body language, talking and walking style. After all, he was a statesman. I think Ram Leela was just a ‘warm up’ for me ahead of Bajirao. This is a much more difficult character, which needs to be dealt with properly. I have to put in my 100 per cent into Bajirao’s role.”

He adds in a lighter vein, “Akhir Bajirao ke role ke liye maine sar mundvaya hai (I have even shaved my head for the role)!!”
