BCCI postpones team selection
BCCI names Stuart Binny as replacement for Varun Aaron for the ongoing Sri Lanka series
MUMBAI: India’s national selectors on Tuesday met at the Cricket Centre here in Mumbai but the team announcement for the tour of Australia was postponed. The announcement was to take place Tuesday. Board secretary Sanjay Patel said that they wanted to wait for the completion of the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka before naming the squad. “We discussed several issues at length. Currently the team for three ODIs has been named. We talked about various combinations. We were thinking of involving certain seniors and junior players who are out. We were thinking if there needs to be any change for the remaining ODIs.”
Patel said that the selectors had a long discussion regarding the tour of Australia and also for the ongoing series. “Many points were discussed for close to three hours. We will be playing Tests in Australia soon after the home ODIs so we also discussed about the timeline for the entire programme.”He further stated that the team selection is now likely to take place after the third ODI in Hyderabad. “We have decided that only the Test team will be picked either on 9th or 10th November.”
Binny replaces inured Aaron
Meanwhile, all-rounder Stuart Binny as replacement for injured Varun Aaron. The fast bowler had injured the quadriceps muscle in his right leg while bowling his fifth over in the first ODI in Cuttack. “Varun Aaron is injured, and he has been replaced by Stuart Binny in the Indian team for the second and third games,” Patel said.
