Hyderabad: High drama was witnessed through the day at the Shamshabad airport, but by late evening on Tuesday the management of Meru cabs and drivers reached a compromise and called off the strike.
Two cabs were set on fire at the airport premises late on Monday night, reportedly by a group of drivers clashing among themselves. The agitations continued on Tuesday morning.
The strike was called off after the management sought a week’s time to resolve the drivers’ issues.
The cab drivers met Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali on Tuesday. The 600 drivers of Meru cabs remained off duty for the last two days in protest against the highhandedness of management.
“We have called of the strike for a week as the management has asked for time to sort out our issues. Drivers have been facing harassment from the management in the form of penalties up to '1.000 without being given any reason. Moreover, we pay very high EMI. At the end of the day, we are not able to take home even '300 in a day,” said a driver, Nageshwar C.
