Hopes high on budget
Finace minister Etela represents Huzurabad in the district
KARIMNAGAR: People in Karimnagar district have pinned many hopes on the maiden budget of Telangana state which would be presented in the legislative Assembly on Wednesday. Many firmly believe that a major chunk of funds would be allocatted for developmental works in the district, a bastion of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). One other reason that has people hoping for fund allocation is Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao always evinced a special interest to improve the district in all fronts. Above all, finance minister Etela Rajender represents Huzurabad Assembly constituency in the district.
The TRS won the mandate in the recent general elections and at the hustings, it promised to convert Karimnagar into one of the most developed districts in Telangana state. The chief minister, in his maiden visit to the city on August 5, had vowed to offer better medical facilities, improve tourism, education and agriculture sectors. He also promised to provide safe drinking water to rural and urban areas, apart from beautifying Karimnagar town.
Moreover, Etela Rajender, who heads the finance ministry, belongs to Huzurabad Assembly constituency in the district. He too promised to focus on the district while allocating funds in the budget when he attended a review meeting in the city recently. In this backdrop, Karimnagar people hope huge budget allocation to the district and remarkable development with the funds.
The district has been facing major challenges like increasing suicides by farmers, weavers and Gulf returnees, lack of adequate infrastructure in state-run hospitals, deteriorating quality of education in primary and secondary schools and rising unemployment. Irrigation projects such as Yellamapalli, Mid Manair, Gouravelli, Gandipalli, Kaleshwara and Muktheswara have remained incomplete due to lack of funds.
